The 6th Samsung Open Source Conference has ended successfully thanks to everyone's interest and support.

    Seung-hwan Cho is Deputy Head of Samsung Research which is the key organization for R&D at Samsung Electronics. With the objective of becoming the world's best R&D center, SR oversees R&D at Samsung Electronics so as to secure new technologies and product technological innovation. Its 14 global R&D bases and 7 AI centers in 12 countries are securing technological capabilities in AI, data intelligence, next-generation communication, robotics, and Tizen, identifying new business seeds, and developing a global top-tier development system.

    Open source, a giant leap into the future

    Senior Vice President Seungbeom Choi is currently the head of R&D Strategy Team at Samsung Research. Since 2017, he has been in charge of identifying and expanding key research areas, such as AI, next-generation communications (5G), robotics, and integrated security solutions based on the foundations for core R&D accumulated over the years and developing the Samsung Electronics’ open source policies and strategy to lead Samsung Electronics’ innovation into a technology driven company. As head of the technology strategy team, he is continually identifying new technological themes to drive new business creation and leads with technology leadership strategies based on continuous technological innovation for Samsung Electronics.

    5G Network Automation and Open source

    Seo-hyung Chung is Vice President at the Network Business Division of Samsung Electronics. He is in charge of developing network analyses, network cloud, and network management products as well as mobile network solutions. His 25-year professional experience includes network virtualization, software-defined networks, orchestration/automation, mobile networks, and router/switches. He had a wide range of technology leadership roles in various networking companies in Silicon Valley before joining Samsung Electronics. He is currently a member of the LF Networking Board.

    Open Source Trend and Its Full Potential

    Jim is currently Chairman of the Linux Foundation that promotes innovation through open source and Linux as well as supporting cooperation between global enterprises. His work at the company-neutral Linux Foundation gave him a unique and comprehensive view of the world's technological trends, and he contributes to leading technical journals such as Businessweek and Wired in recognition of his far reaching insight to the changing economic environment of the technology industry. As well as regularly participating as a keynote speaker at industry events, he is also a Board member at the Global Economic Symposium, Open Source For America, and Chinese Open Source Promotion Union.

    The importance of open source: From the view of ETRI

    Myung-joon Kim is the President of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Industry (ETRI). Having begun his career as a Linux developer, he worked as a general manager, group manager, division head, and research director from 1986 to 2016. He served as President of the Software Policy & Research Institute (SPRI) from 2016 to 2019. He is also active in international cooperation. He served as the WG3 Korea Chairman of the North-East Asia Open Source Software Promotion Forum from 2004 and 2010 and was elected as the Board member of the US Linux Foundation afterward.

    Winner of the Samsung Junior Software CupChadwick International School

    SW development experiences as a junior developer

    Dong-yun Cheong attends Chadwick International School and hopes to become an IT developer in the future. In 2018, he participated in the Samsung Junior Software Creation Contest held with the theme of “Happiness” and received the grand award by developing the “Happy Traveler” app designed to increase the fun of traveling and resolving inconveniences. With the dream of becoming a software and IT developer, he is developing various programs. He is currently developing software after receiving funding for a plan for activities that combine the public interest and coding. The teenager dreams of becoming an innovative entrepreneur who uses various platforms to contribute to society.

Samsung Open Source Conference

Currently the largest Open Source conference in Korea organized by Samsung Electronics, the conference has been held every year as a venue for more than 1,500 participants, such as software developers, students, and startup communities, to share their varied knowledge and experiences acquired from the Open Source field.

*Finalists will be able to set up their robots for exhibition from 09:00 AM – 10:00 AM. Presentation and evaluation will be held from 13:00 PM – 18:00 PM.
